Data

We collect data in order to provide and make improvements to Newham Homes services. We also gather information about the use of this site (for internal use only).

We collect the personal data that you may volunteer while using our services.

We do not collect or use personal data collected on this website for any purpose other that that notified to the Information Commissioner, for the purposes which are notified to you at the point you provide the information .

Information maybe shared with others only with your consent, or in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998 or as provided for under specific legislation or protocols (for example Crime and Disorder and Health).

We do not use your data for direct marketing without your permission.

Security

All data will be held in accordance with the Council's Data Security Policy and in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998.

Retention

We only retain data for so long as it is relevant.

Abuse and Harassment Statement

Newham Council has clear principles we aspire to which are defined through our shared values. These include valuing our colleagues, working with honesty and integrity and engaging with and valuing our community. The council will not tolerate abusive or harassing behaviour directed at our staff. Using the council's intranet or the internet to send abusive or threatening messages is clearly unacceptable.

Our Legal Obligation


The council has statutory duties:

  • To act in accordance with the European Convention of Human Rights [Human Rights Act 1998, particularly Article 8 and 14]
  • To provide for the well being of its citizen [Local Government Act 2000]
  • To do all it reasonably can to prevent crime and disorder [Crime and Disorder Act 1998]
  • To eliminate unlawful discrimination and to promote equality of opportunity [Race Relations [Race Relations Amendment] Act 2000], Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (as amended) and Equalities Act 2006].
  • To look after the welfare of its staff in accordance with Health and Safety laws.

Our Action

Anyone experiencing harassment or abuse should be supported and protected from further abuse. We will therefore record and investigate any incidents from the Internet, email or any other electronic system and where appropriate take action, which may include, covert or overt monitoring, blocking, removal of any potentially offensive material, disciplinary action, injunctive action by the council and reporting the matter to the police.
