The compact is an agreement between Newham Homes,
Newham Council and Newham's Tenants' and Leaseholders', to share
decision making in relation to housing services provided by Newham
Homes and the Council.
Most local authorities, managing agents and registered social
landlords have based their Tenant's Compact on tenant participation
however in Newham our Compact covers a range of housing related
services and overarches services provided by Newham Homes and
Newham Council.
The Newham Homes vision is:
- Deliver excellent services and modern homes and safe and
inclusive communities and to become an employer of
choice.
Our vision therefore ties into Newham's overall vision for
2010 where one of the main factors contributing to achieving
Newham's 2010 vision is involving local residents in decision
making and delivering the services that they think are important.
What better way to continually improve services than to seek
direction from those who use them - our customers.

The Compact has been responsible for introducing some major changes
suggested by residents such as the introduction of the Borough-wide
Tenant Liaison Committee and the six Area Tenant Liaison
Committees, a freephone number to the repairs service, ensuring
compact commitments are included in each sections service plan,
etc. The Compact enables residents to make proposals for service
improvements, to discuss them with service managers and to see them
included in the compact's two year action plans.
The pages that are listed below were derived from a series of
discussions held at compact consultation meetings held from October
2005 through to April 2007. These discussions were held between
individual residents, Tenant and Resident Association
representatives, and service managers of sixteen different
services.
The Tenants and Leaseholders Compact 2010-2013 and review of
Compact 2007-2009 are listed by topic below:
Monitoring the Compact 2007-2009
A series of meetings will progress from Autumn 2010
to monitor the compact 2010-2013. The process of reviewing the
compact and redrafting the next edition usually takes approximately
18-20 months. However, when the time comes the Compact meetings
will again be well publicised and open to all Newham Homes
residents keen to participate.
