Tenants And Residents Associations
Tenants' and Residents' Associations (TRAs) are an excellent way for you to get involved in your community. You can have a say about how your estate or block is managed, maintained and improved through a TRA.
There are already a number of TRAs set up in different areas in Newham. You can get involved in an existing one or start your own. A
list of existing TRAs
and phone numbers of staff in areas where TRAs are not set up is available.
Tenants and Residents Associations enable residents to have a say about their estate and community. They are a group of tenants and leaseholders who formally meet to discuss estate based issues. They usually set up to focus on issues that affect them. As well as holding regular meetings they arrange social events and outings for residents and chase up local estate issues e.g. repairs.
A TRA that is democratically elected has more voice and influence in getting things changed and can influence the council's and Newham Homes' housing policies through the Area Tenant Liaison Committee (ATLC).
Each TRA elects two representatives to the ATLC each year. Newham Homes supports the ATLCs.
We currently support TRAs by providing the following:
TRA support pack
Empowering Tenants and Leaseholders courses
Access to PCs
Notice boards on estates
Administration grants
Tenant involvement webpage
Funding opportunities
ID cards
Meeting venues
Transport
Assistance with childcare payments
Help with flyers, leaflets and newsletters
