will i have the right to buy?
Most, but not all, tenants have the Right to Buy.
Here are some of the main reasons why you may not be able to buy your home:
- You are not the secure tenant of the property.
- You have not been a public sector tenant for at least 2 years (or five years if you became a tenant after January 17 2005)
- The Council has obtained a court order for possession of your home.
- You live in sheltered housing for the elderly or disabled people.
- You live in a property that is particularly suitable for the elderly and was let before 1 January 1990 to be lived in by someone aged 60 or more.
- You work for Newham and your home has been provided as part of your conditions of service.
